Currently, rugby is recognized in just 1 of the 4 high schools in the city of Alexandria. T.C. Williams, the city's lone public high school has recognized a club since 2004. Interest in the program has steadily increased each year and in 2007 a girls team was formed. Under the tutelage Jeff Murphy, a founding member of Alexandria Rugby, the TC boy's club won the Rugby Virginia Division II state championship in 2009.
Boys from Bishop Ireton High School have in past years organized a club under the name Bishop Ireton/Cambridge Road Rugby. Alexandria Rugby hopes to help revive interest in the sport at the school and with its student body in the near future.
AR also see the need for a city-based summer Rugby 7's program that would be open to ALL city residents between the ages of 13 and 18. With some help we could make this happen.
